Frustrating: Can't get to Provider Options in SQL 2005 Express?
I'm trying to get to the provider options screen in SQL2K5 Management
Studio, however I am unable to find it anywhere. This is really
frustrating... Here is what I am trying to do:
1.. In SQL Mgmt Studio, connect to the SQL Server Database Engine and go
to Server Objects->Linked Server->Providers in the Object Explorer.
2.. Right-click on a provider and select Properties.
However, all I can see when I right-click is "Refresh" ... How can I access
the provider options? Is this a limitation of the Express database? Is there
a stored proc I can use?
Thanks,
MichaelWhat are you trying to achieve?
Look at the sp_addlinkedserver system procedure.

http://milambda.blogspot.com/|||Thanks, but I have already used sp_addlinkedserver.
I am trying to set the "allow inprocess" provider options... according to
research in the NG's and BOL (see "Linked Server Properties (Provider
Options Page)"), this is set from a dialog that I am unable to access. I
can't see it when adding a new linked server, editing an existing one, or
right-clicking on the provider in Management Studio.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

From SQL Express to XML file
HI guys,
Is there any tool to import the database from SQLExpress to change it into XML without doing much programming code in .Net?
Thanks!
Chin
Hi Chin,
The short answer is no, SQL Express doesn't include any import/export tools. That said, Transact-SQL provides syntax that lets you represent your data as XML, and you could use that to produce XML and then save that to a file.
Check out my answer to a similar question at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=368472&SiteID=1 for links to pertinent BOL topics.

From databasediagram to T-SQL
i would like to know how to get this to T-SQL CREATE TABLE script?
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/2005/productinfo/ctp.mspx#EBAA|||
Thanks i understand. I think this is a pretty imporant feature. Because if i have made a Table Diagram in VWD and would like to show it to a friend, i want to be able to convert this diagram to a SQL CREATE TABLE txt script. so my friend can just copy this SQL txt script into his VWD and show up exactly the same tables.
|||Hello, i noticed that i actually can get this diagram to a T-SQL CREATE TABLE script, by clicking on the "Generate change script", but this "menubutton" is only available if i made a change to the database, and because of this i cannot just generate the script when i want to, i have to make changes to the database to do it, i think this is a unnecessary step, this "menubutton" "generate change script" should be available all the time, and it should be renamed to "generate script" so i can generate the T-SQL script whenever i want to.|||Try the post below and test drive the latest CTP, it may be different. Hope this helps.http://forums.asp.net/1052509/ShowPost.aspx

framework 1.1 update + ssmse: get warning!?
here is my problem:
I installed sql server express on a naked Windows xp pro with SP2; of course, framework 2.0 installed, and MS-installer 3.1 installed as well. I also installed ssmse. Everything worked fine.
Then I installed all windows updates via Windows Update in internet.
Now suddenly, when starting ssmse, I get a Warning Textbox with Header "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express", then the yellow triangle with the exklamation mark, but NO TEXT AT ALL, and the OK-button. So unfortunately, I do not know what to do. Only thing I found out was, that in all updates, the culprit surely is framework 1.1 update. Before installing this, everything worked fine, afterwards, well, see above.
When I click the ok-button, everything works fine, I can log in into sql server express and do what I have to do.
So my only solution at the moment is just to ignore the warning - not the best way.
Couldn't find a better solution until now.
Could anybody help?

Have you tried to reinstall / repair the management tools again. This would not take long and should re connect any links or references that were lost.
|||Hello, Glenn,
thanks a lot for your answer.
Unfortunately, I tried that several times, also with a brand new installed windows xp pro sp2.
But, must tell you, I DID find a solution:
I downloaded the sqlexpr_toolkit_ger.exe, installed it, and now this strange message has disappeared, and ssmse is working without any problems...
I think, there might be any file destroyed by updating framework 1.1 which is reinstalled by the toolkit!?
Doesn't matter, it works.
Kind regards from
