Front-end tools -- Which is the most productive?

After having seen my co-worker reinventing the wheel
when he busily labored to build MS Access framework, I want to share
my perspective.

Having experienced with Access, Visual Basic, Visual C++,
and PowerBuilder, I think Sybase's PowerBuilder is the most
productive tool to build front-ends for any database or
client/server applications. PowerBuilder's datawindow
is very powerful.

share isn't with Sybase - so the herd goes down the wrong path.

Unfortunately a lot of executive decisions are made by taking in the
powerpoint market pitch, and not through anything that resembles critical
rational thinking.

You know I have worked with several products, nothing to beat Web
based front end using ASP/ASP.NET with Oracle/SQL Server back-end. No
client maintenance, just a browser and a NIC. What else can you ask
for ?

I'm looking for a list of tools which can be used in front of reporting
services to create reports without using visual studio.
In my current list there is RSInteract and report builder.
SQL 2008 will also have a client report generator.
do you have any other tools for me?
ideally the application is web based and can be used in sharepoint
integrated mode.

Since RDL is a form of XML, technically you could build a custom
application in ASP.NET/etc that can create the .rdl file (XML) and
datasource file, etc for you based on some user input, etc. Hope this
helps.

From where to download sql MSDE CLIENT TOOLS

Hi,
I am installing MSDE 2000 on client machines. Where can I dowload the client
connectivity tools for MSDE so that users can see and work with thier
databases?
Do I have to download sql sp4 for that? Can someone please send me the link
for downloading the client tools?

Microsoft does not provide any 'client tools' for MSDE.
Users must have an application, or programming environment such as Visual
Studio -or even Access.
There are some third party management tools on the internet -but I don't
recall that any of them where tools for "users can see and work with thier
databases", if by that you mean execute queries, etc.

By users seeing the databases , I mean like in Enterpsir Manager, users can
see all the databases by right clicking and can see teh schema of the tables.
Also, I have SQL SErver 2000 CD with valid license. So do I think I can copy
the client tools from there and put it on all machines Ineed MSDE on?
Which files do i need to copy for taking the client tools only?

Its great to know about the SQL Web Data Admin. I installed it , but then I
go to view the page from http://localhost/webadmin/default.aspx, its showing
me the code instead of the web page.
I know this is happening coz in IIS my web sites are not configured to
regonize to .aspx extension. How to configure IIS to understand .aspx
extension? I know we have to right lick on teh properties for the node called
Web Sites in IIS, then go to Home Diretory tab, click Configuration button at
the bottom, BUt what do I enter in the next window that pulls up , i.e what
will be the executable path for .aspx extension?

Server on ONE computer, and allow unlimited clients to have access to that
ONE SQL Server. And you must have one license per CPU in that computer.
If you have a second SQL Server, it must have its own license.
I suggest that you may wish to chat with Microsoft licensing to clear up any

Please forgive this very newbie question but...
I've played with mysql and used tools such as mysql front and sqlyog
I'm currently going through a teach yourself asp.net (which comes with
a copy of sql server) and was wondering if there are any free tools to
connect to sql server.
I've trawled google but to no avail. I'm sure there must be something
out there.
